I have the Mustang Wide Touring and the HD Tallboy. They are both about the same width, but sit the rider very differently. Mustang is slightly taller than stock and a smidge rearward. The Tallboy is 2" taller and 1.75" rearward. As Mchad says, it is ugly as sin, but very comfortable.
I think the widest seats are the Russell Day Long and HD Police seats. Both are ugly beyond the Tallboy, but both get consistent praise as best in class in their comfort for the long haul.
I'm looking forward to my wide vintage solo and the slim passenger. This'll be the 5th seat (not including the factory torture device) I've tried and from my experience with the one piece it'll be the last one in all likelihood. Hoping the seller gets off their asses and gets it shipped. The passenger seat is arriving on Wed... (the one piece is in the classifieds in case anyone's interested :-)
The guy at Dave's tells me they make 'the' widest seat in that style seat you can buy, that is other than getting a full on, two-up touring seat. He also tells me the diamond pattern style provides the most comfort of the two.
I found this thread very interesting and I am just about to make a seat decision for my 2017 Fat Bob. I have owned Mustangs in the past, so I might start with the wide vintage one piece. I found (in my limited 134 miles of ownership), that the stock HD seat is not too bad for the driver, but really stinks for the passenger after 30 or 60 minutes. My better half loves to sit higher then me. So I would like to find a seat that has a low drive seat and a very tall passenger section. I made my last seat on a old bike I had. It looked like hell covered in a old bath mat, but was very comfortable. Especially the passenger section. Inside that section, I put an old inter tube so I could change the comfort level by adding or removing air pressure. Here is a picture of my inter tube air seat.
I have 75 thousand very comfortable miles on my mustand wide vintage on the bagger and 16 thousand on the same seat on my fat bob and have no need nor inclination to ever even try another seat! Perfect for my fattass!
