recently pulled the outer and inner primary. Installed new inner primary bearing and new drive belt. Put it all back together tonight and CLICK CLICK CLICK. Bike will not turn over. Battery is reading fine. 2002 FXDX. I have read this problem somewhere else online. Something binding?
Guessing you are checking battery with a digital voltage meter.
What is the voltage reading at battery? If you have less than 12.4 volts then it is low.
IF you verify that battery voltage is up to standard, consider this:
You pulled the outer and inner primary which means you had take apart the starter shaft and gear to get it out. Pull the outer primary and verify you put it back together correctly or it won't engage the ring gear on the clutch basket. Start with 47 and work your way out.

I feel like something is out of alignment. We were rocking the bike back and forth while clicking the starter button while in gear. One time it wanted to kick over, then went back to the constant clicks. ANY IDEAS?
you checked the ground post nut down by the starter? Cleaned up the battery connections?
yes, it’s not like a relay click. Its the “plunger” a loud audible click. Everything was fine prior to the primary being taken apart. After we put it back together this happened.
What is the voltage across the battery when you push the start button? If that is dropping down to around 10 volts, then that would indicate that the starter winding is getting current flow from the battery and the problem is probably mechanical. If the volts are not dropping when you push the starter button, that would indicate the start circuit is not completing to engage and run the starter suggesting a wiring or starter problem.
