I've been lurking around for a while, this is my first post. I've had my Super Glide for a year now and I have decided to pull the trigger on a 7 day road trip. I'm going leave from WV and meet up with some friends at Rolling Thunder then head down through NC and into TN to the H.O.G Rally and then back to WV. About 1500 miles total. I'm really nervous about this because the first 300 miles I'll be on my own. My question to all you veteran riders is what are some essential items I need to take with me?
3 extra complete outfits, rain gear. Bike cover. Flashlight. phone. Small tool kit. Towing added to your insurance policy... As said already AAA never hurts... Extra spark plugs. Mini extinguisher... For starters
..
I always find the oldest underwear I have and pack them, that way I can just toss them rather than lugging them around with me. Always have water and some food in case you break down, and extra meds if you need them. I always have chap-stick and tums on hand on my bike and in my vehicles because there is nothing worse than chapped lips or an acid stomach on the road. Rain gear. It WILL rain...even if the sun is out it will rain.
Will leave on a 6-7 day ride soon too. My guess is no saddlebags/sissy bar ? You have a Garmin ? I've got the HD luggage and its usually packed to the gills.
I never leave home without Tool bag, Tie wraps, 9mm in the saddlebag, Camera, sunscreen water/snacks and all the layers. Got caught in a couple of storms in CO last year and the rain suit/NAV did its job. Also have a small Antigravity micro-start, but haven't had to use it.
I'll be taking long sleeve tees for AZ/UT and Thermals for CO.
Enjoy brother !
Thank you for all the replies. I do have saddlebags and sissy bar. I also have a good rain suit. I plan on using my phone for Navigation. I'm going to buy a tool kit. I'm also looking at luggage. I'm staying with family when I get to TN, I will be able to do laundry.
Thank you for all the replies. .....I plan on using my phone for Navigation. .
My phone, when traveling, discharges rapidly because it is on and roaming I think is the word. So make sure you have a DC phone charger and if possible, a cigarette lighter outlet to keep it charged. I am not familiar with a SuperGlide to know if you have a DC outlet available. If not, might consider adding one before departure.
