Default 2006+ Chain Drive

Wondering what you all recommend for chain drive sprocket size. I've heard that 25/55 is good for all around gearing with the 6 speed. Half my riding is freeway around 80mph but I want some torque in 1st and 2nd to help get the front end up. Anyone have more experience with chain drive?

I'm running a 530 o-ring chain and sprockets on My 89 FXR,2001 FXDX Sport and 2003 FXDL Anniversary Dyna . Go to a 23 Tooth Countershaft
(Transmission ) Sprocket and a 48 Tooth REAR Sprocket . Zippers Performance has complete kits with spacers and all hardware .

23/48 is pretty much stock gearing for a 6spd bike. Which in all honesty is too tall and made for high speed running like 85-90 in 6th gear.

OP- Your selection of 25/55 gearing would be a great choice to have a bit more "low end" torque available with still not being too high revving at 80mph, but maybe 25/54 woud be a touch better if you can find the sprocket. you can also get the same gearing from a 30t drive pulley if you stay with belt drive and stock 66t rear pulley. There is also a few members running the 30/66 combo as well.

I went from the stock 32/66 pulley to a 32/68 setup and Its perfect. I run 80mph quite frequently and its around 3000-3100 engine RPM in 6th gear. Not an extreme jump but definitely a noticeable help in the lower rpm torque delivery and the bike runs much better in 6th gear as I can actually use 6th gear at 70mph and not be lugging the bike.

here are some quick calcs about the ratios mentioned in my post so you can get an idea of what gear ratio you're looking at/ for. Listed from tallest to lowest gearing. Top of the list has least torque, bottom has more.

Stock dyna (32/66) 2.06:1
23/48 chain drive 2.08:1
My dyna (32/68) 2.125:1
25/55 chain drive 2.2:1
30t pulley/stock rear 2.2:1

ALL 3 of my Bikes ( FXR ,FXDX and FXDL ) have BAKER DRIVETRAIN 6 Speed Overdrive Transmission Kits in them .80 to 90 mph cruising in 6th gear i'm a bit below 2800 RPM . I've never run the belt rear drives & pulleys on any of my H-Ds longer than it took to order, receive and replace them with Steel Sprockets & Chains since I snapped a rear belt on my FXR running a 107 C.I. S&S Evo Motor in the first hour of breaking in the new motor in a 2nd gear sprint . I'm not familiar with the ratios and calculations that you posted for the number of front & rear pulley teeth ( I honestly never counted them ) but thanks for the relative information in case I ever need it . All my bikes have chains ( including ) my larger S&S 124" and 145" Anniversary Motored , Rigid Framed 300mm tire Right Side Drive Short & Small sized Pro Street bikes - and My Ducati and RR1000s BMW . I've never been a fan of H-D rear drive belts - or even open belt primary's .... I'm running ALL BAKER DRIVETRAIN Transmissions and Primary's on my S&S Motored customs I built .I have seen dudes with stock H-D Dyna's snap belts during wheelies and holeshots , but I broke mine on a 2nd gear "whacking the throttle Wide Open" run . Thanks again for that pulley info in case I need to recommend those formula's to my friends who intend on switching to chains .
