hate to open this topic, but I have been having a real bad time with H-D batteries, my 01 low rider is charging 14.35 to the battery and the last couple of H-D batteries last barely a year. What kind of batteries are people having the best luck with. I also keep a tender on it. starter is not that old. terry
I just purchased this per advice from a few forum members better CCA and fit into 2014 SB battery box like a glove. Even though amazon said it wasn't compatible, So far so good!

this 100%. I forget the brand mine is, but its the one from Walmart, but the best one they sell, for agm batteries. It charges flooded batteries as well but agm batteries have to be charged at lower amperage otherwise it reduces the life of the battery and can actually overheat and destroy the battery.
i plug a normal car charger output 4 amps every 3 weeks if not being used.. a tender only puts about 1.5 volts. but each person has different views
thats because agm batteries are supposed to be charged slow. How slow, boils down to preference but I have seen agm batteries smoke from other techs charging too fast

I think you mean 1.5 amps - ideal rate / amps of charge varies among battery designs and some have step charging rates
that works best for that battery type.

Going through batteries that fast should be a red flag that you have an underlying problem. Getting a defective battery from MoCo happens, but two in a row with the same exact failure symptoms is not likely. Time to start looking...
I had a failure after 6 months on a new HD battery for my 2001 FXD. I kept checking things and finding nothing wrong and then everything works when it is back together. This happened several times. Everything I know about this stuff kept point to the battery only it always checked good. Finally one afternoon it would not turn over so I took the battery straight to the dealer, told them what was going on, and got a warranty replacement and have not had a problem since. (knock on wood)
Another thing, I rarely use a tender because I ride a lot all year long but I was using one on the new battery that failed. I have used the tender on this current battery only a couple of times and so far no problems after almost 20 months...

With lead acid batteries (incl AGM), it's better to store a fully charged battery disconnected in a cool place like your basement. Set it on a rubber or wood surface.
