Question 2003 Super Glide charging question

I went to start the bike after it had been sitting some for the winter. It obviously didn't start so I put the tender on it to ramp it back up. Seemed to change fine. Started it up a couple days later and went for a short ride to get the oil heated up and everything moving. Parked for a few days and the bike wouldn't start again. Repeat the above. Started it up after a tender charge this past Tuesday, and today the famous clicking of he starter.

ANyone have any ideas as to where to look for this problem? I'm wondering if have something loose somewhere.

Clean and check battery connections, remove battery and get it tested.

Sounds like your battery is shot.

+1 with getting battery tested, but first put a charge on it. Charge until the charger shows full charge. Be advised a bad battery will take out the regulator and stator if you keep putting it off.

Default testing

Thanks for the advice. I'll pull the battery tonight and get it tested. Anyone know of a good way to test the reg and stator? I want to be able to know exactly which part is bad. Nothing worse than buying a part and finding out it was the not the cause!

There is a thread on testing the stator in the Electrical DIY section. If you pull the derby cover or the chain inspection plate and there is a burnt smell than I'd zero in on the stator. If it's the rectifier/regulator you can test it with the bike running but that will give volts, there is a procedure for testing amps but I'm not sure of it. Here are some numbers for you.
At idle bike warmed up and idling steady--12.8vdc-13.2vdc. Rpms up around 2000-2200 --voltage around 14.1- -14.5vdc. These carbed bikes didn't have many electrics to keep powered so the charging system is a bit anemic. Suggested replacement parts would be Stator and Rectifier/Regulator from Cycle Electrics, good stuff and reasonable.
