Now here's a question..

Oil cooler is located on the down tubes 6 to 8 inches of the ground?

Oil filter relocated to down tube having filter 12 to 18 inches off the ground and away from the motor?

Is this a wash? Will both cool the same?

 

Not the same. Oil cooler has openings that let the air through which essentially blows over the oil cooling it down. No openings in a filter.

Now to be fair, an oil filter in the air, getting actual airflow over it , might cool down the oil a little more then being tucked beside the engine but I run a proper oil cooler so I won’t be the one to find this out.
