Ok, a radiator and an "oil cooler" are the same, folks. Only difference is the liquid inside them.

To reduce heat generated by an engine? Tune it, or reduce compression. Or, go electric!
lol a lot of people don’t know that any radiation, cooler, or heater core is simply a “heat exchanger”. If I hadn’t been a tech for 8 years I probably wouldn’t either.

no the issue is engine heat. Specifically, what temp difference others have noticed with cooling fans on a stage 4/5 upgrade.

Hey everyone I don’t want to sound ungrateful because I truly appreciate all the input but the question here isn’t HOW to cool down the engine, it’s how effective cooling fans are on big bore upgrades such as my 117 or mchads (I think) 117 with love jugs.

Im asking because on hot days, my engine temps get too high even while doing 90 on the free way, so that makes me question how well cooling fans will cool while stopped in traffic. Again, thank you, just felt I needed to reiterate

Living in SoCal 25 miles from Palm Springs I regularly see 90 to 100+ days. My 2013 FLHTK would regularly kick in the EITMS in town after hitting
just a couple of stop lights. Friends of mine have both Love Jugs and the LeNale set up which I've gone with. My fan is wired through my aux switch
and I only turn it on when I hit the first stop in city traffic as it makes no difference when you're running down a highway. Now my EITMS kicks in
much less frequently and only on very hot days. The LeNale fan is plug and play including options and brackets for relocating your horn as that's
where it mounts. Here's a video of a setup like mine -

Here's our write-up on ways to cool down your bike. Take a look at it. Full of useful info.

Why & How to Cool Down the Twin Cam & Milwaukee-Eight Engines

There are lots of simple, inexpensive mods that can be done to help with cooling; a tank lift, an External Breather System, relocate the oil filter, etc.

Lots more in the report above. Good luck!

I'm sorry man, I misread your objective. I only have a 110 in mine. No inches upgraded.

honestly thats close enough. I noticed a significant increase in heat going from my 103 Street bob to my lrs when it was still a 110. I’m hoping building a fan kit will be enough until I can get a fan assisted oil cooler. However I would feel better if others chimed in with their numbers before and after.

From what inunderstand, the powervision reads head temps. The "engine temp" is a calculated temperature based on a number of things. Monitor your head temps. I fought this whole heat thing for a while. I tried the ultracool stuff andnit qould cool as long as it wasnt spewing out oil from numerous leaks. I got tired of chasing leaks so it sits in a box in the garage now. I change my oil every 3k miles now and dont worry too much about temps and have had no problems. It was easilly hitting 300. Obviously i try not to sit in traffic and stuff like that.

The Power Vision displays the data from the front cylinder head sensor as engine temperature <ET>. Cylinder head temperature <CHT> is an algorithm derived reading based on the ET and the intake air temperature <IAT> sensor...

i thought it read engine temp from the rear cylinder since it runs slightly hotter, and the head temp was calculated. But you’d know better than I would.

Do you think the fans fans will make a difference (in traffic/stop lights) if I’m already hitting 280 on freeway speeds?

The lone sensor is on the front cylinder positioned to the rear of the head. There is no sensor for the rear cylinder at all; HD did that on purpose. So, the Twin Cam isn't exactly honest about temperatures

The PV uses that lonely sensor to display ET, and calculates CHT based on ET and IAT.

I'm sure you remember our discussions about fans here in the Dyna forum <good times!> The 103" is hard to cool down but it can be done with a multi-layered approach. It's almost as if the line is crossed on the bigger inch Twin Cam engines and the techniques have less effect; and you know my feelings about fans, but if I were running a 117" and seeing those sorts of temperatures after having done all the other cooling related mods I'd most likely be re-thinking my dislike for them...
