Default H-D Sissy Bar Sideplate Issue

I have a 1999 Dyna Super Glide (FXD) and have recently attempted (yes, attempted) to purchase side plates to mount a sissy bar. I originally purchased the Drag Specialties side plates but realized the bolt holes did not line up. The front hole lined up but the 2 rear holes seemed to be flip-flopped; the hole with the pass through for the turn signal was where the bolt is and vice-versa. Thinking it was an issue of receiving the wrong plates, I purchased the H-D Detachable Sideplates. This time, the front bolt hole lines up but where the rear bolt hole is is actually where my signal is and the bolt behind it is in the way (pictures attached).

My question: what the hell is going on?!

Off the top of my head...did you buy the correct model side plates for your bike year ?
The sideplates off my 2001 FXD don't fit on my 2013 FXDC & vice versa..

Yes, they are supposedly for my specific bike. The Drag Specialties plates were bought through Revzilla where I selected my precise bike. The H-D detachable plates were purchased through my local H-D dealer.

You may need the turn signal relocation kit.

bingo... it's suppose to attach to the turn signal not that chrome nut bolt. turn signal relocation or quick release turn signal bolt kits are usually the option.

Your bike originally had the wire for the turn signal through the strut in front of the housing then into the housing. The rigid plate was notched so it could be installed without splicing the wire. The detachable kit ran the wire through the longer stem and had a chrome cap cover the old hole in the sideplate. You have a nut there instead so the side plate can’t latch. Lose the nut, get a cap and the detachable will work.
