I have an 03 WG and have upgraded the seat for the Mrs. She never had a problem with the short rides around town, but any further she complained of a sore as#. HD sells a a 2 up pillow top seat for about $225. The rear seat is 4"wider and it has another inch of padding. More padding under your butt also. This worked out great-no more complaints even on 3-4hr rides.
Thanks for all the input from you folks. I have committed to my friend to buy the bike. The comfort and value issues seemed far outshadowed by the problems I am hearing may be lurking regarding the fact that it is the first year of the Twin Cam. I think these problems can be overcome by a quick VIN search through Harley for recall coverage and some minor elbow grease and a few hours of my time on the chain tensioners, etc.
All in all I thought that not buying the bike just because of these mechanicl facts would be a mistake, so I guess I will pick it up this weekend.
My first bike (out of 8 in the past 8 years) was a Low Rider and as it turns out my favorite handling bike of all time......everything comes full circle I suppose.
I will post pics when I can....not that I'll keep it the same since I am a painter, leathersmith and customizer by trade. But nonetheless, you can get an idea of what I landed on buying.
