Vinner error!!!
2016 FXDB, short shots, heavy breather, has a nice dyno tune using the old race tuner.... I don’t have the tuner, it was not sold with bike. I don’t recall having hard start/vinerr error in the first 5,000 miles of owning the bike.
Symptoms:
Vinner code use to pop up occasionally and has gotten worse over the last month.
2 times out of the last 5,000 miles my bike stalled when coming to a stop. I can prevent this with giving it gas so it doesn’t die. If I kill the bike, and turn back on, problem goes away.
3. Has stuck on high idle for a few seconds at times when coming to a stop.
Things I have done/test results:
1. I cleaned the IAC with MAF cleaner twice and since then it seems to have an idle dying problem. But no guarantee considering I am still pulling this VINERR CODE.
CHARGING SYSTEM TEST RESULTS:
BATTERY before any testing sits at: 12.7v
Idle: 14.10
AND @ 2,000rpm: 14.15
Connections and grounds are all right and clean..
REGULATOR TEST:
1. Switched multimeter over to AC and connected leads to battery terminals and I am pulling 30.1 AC to the battery!!!
2. Multimeter lead to battery ground and to regulator plug, also saw voltage there which is no good.
STATOR TEST: (3 phase)
1. STATOR is not grounded. Good!
2. AC OUTPUT: 18-20 @ idle, 34-40 @ 2,000 rpm
3. Resistance: 0.6 ohms on every wire...not sure if that is high but all of them read the same...
MY QUESTION:
1. The regulator is shot according to my test results but would a bad regulator cause a VINERR code and not wanting to idle at times ?? Has anyone had a similar problem???
2. Does my resistance on my stator seem okay?
thanks everyone for your input.
Your charging is fine... if you're getting above 14 to your battery when running.
Yes, the resistance on your stator is fine.
check all your battery cables for tightness.. .both ends.
I had 14.1 V while running the bike and the same amount when at 2000rpm. So in fact it wasn’t charging anything.... that’s a very bland statement..
I had to replace with new regulatory and new battery in order for my bike to sit at a healthy 14.4 at idle and a bit higher at 2,000 rpms. That eliminated the VINNER and sluggish start..
And to your comment about the post, been riding since I could walk. I have made 3 post on this forum in the last 6 years about a problem I am capable of solving but really would like some input. Not all post are the same. Hell, I wish I saw more similar error post or troubleshooting post when I use this forum. I don’t think it’s a problem. Hopefully you are not on a Harley Facebook page. You would have pulled your hair out by now with the repetitive questions. Appreciate the input.
