2006 ultra charging issues!
4 days ago I was driving home and the engine and battery light came on. when I got home I removed the seat and connected a multimeter to get a quick check on the battery. the battery was reading at 13.4. I shut the bike down and pulled the codes, po562, po563, b1006. I let the bike sit over night in the morning I started the bike and checked the battery again it read 16.3. I pulled the wires from the voltage regulator to the battery (2 wire plug) and did an ohms test both tested .0 I then did an ohms test on the stater which read .0. I fired the bike up one more time and the battery read 12.8 at idle and increased to 14.6 at 2500 rpm. everything was working fine. Took the bike out to try and reproduce the problems and 300 yards down the road the volts guage pinned to 16 and battery and engine lights came on pulled over and put the multimeter to the batter and it was at 16.4. I assumed the voltage regulator was not "regulating" so I went to dealer and picked one up. Installed the new voltage regulator and every thing tested fine, 12.8 at idle and increased to 14.+ with rpm. Today i started the bike made it about 6 miles stopped to get gas and bike would not start. I got the bike home and retested regulator one leg tested .0 the 2nd tested same as the battery. I then Tested the starter with it running Stater reads 16.2 at all legs a-b, a-c, b-c.
@ 2000 rpm same test reads 33. from a-b, a-c but b-c reads 25.
@ 3000 rpm stater has no change from 2000 rpm
I have taken the inspection cover off and smelled and It just smelled like oil not nasty smells.
I am assuming the stator is now toast but don't want to throw money at the problem.
