You are not too short; I have a 166cm brother who can ride my 08 Fat Bob with mids no problem. I'll double check part numbers when I get home; I converted mine from forward controls after my first long trip on it...
I see quite a few inner primaries on eBay from $65USD and up; peg mounts are easy to get, too.
I tink it was very good looking and Yes I rode it. But I also thought it was a easy thing to fix the pegs n controls.
I bought my FXDF with forwards and I don't like forwards...I just knew it was an easy (but not too cheap) fix for an otherwise perfect bike for me
Here's the parts numbers from the 08 parts book; my wife's 08 FXDL Low Rider came with mids and a black inner primary. Do not know why FXDF mids says silver here...
GM=FXD GN=FXDL GP=FXDWG GV=FXDC GX=FXDB GY=FXDF
Yes, I think it is the perfekt bike for me as well, except the forward pegs. So, I guess I have to get my hands on a housing with that hole through, so I can get the mids. Thank you very much for the help

Put a set of floor boards on it, a lot cheaper then trying to go to mids and you can move your feet around. I did that to my 2012 Superglide. I hated the mids and went to forwards. Didn't really like those as well so tryed the floor boards...perfect....I'm 5'10" with 31" inseem.
This is a comfortable setup for forwards. Same here I could only reach the controls and pegs with tip toes. This is reduced reach kit, extended shift and brake pads, and Kuryakyn mini boards mounted in rear slightly angled position.
I agree with one of the statements above, probably should have tried a different bike if you don't like forwards.
No, don't really need to, it is fine as is after these mods. I don't need to sit lower, I can flat foot the ground and that is good enough. I might look at other seats in the future though
I didn't even need the floor boards but you should really wear boots with pegs to lock in on the peg, I wear regular shoes most of the time so floor boards feel safer.

I dont agree to that statement you refer to. I found the one bike Ive been looking for and I really thougt it was much easier to change footpegs as on every other Harley. I also like forwards, but not that far as thay are right now. The bike is awesome and I couldnt get a better one for my style. Im gonna fix the footcontrol issue so no worries.
Nice work on your controls btw
Ya, it is quite the undertaking. I think the miniboards I put on are a good happy medium and the reduced reach and the miniboards were very easy to install. With the miniboards in the back position it is almost a further forward mid feel, but the brake is still up instead of down. Total bill on the conversion was about $275ish. A little more for the brake pad and shifter peg, but that isn't a must do.
