Default Replacing sissy bar upright

I am going to replace the sissy bar upright to allow for a more secure attachment of a luggage bag.

It looks like the entire backrest / luggage rack assembly “should” unclip from the rearward posts and then lift up

and then the assembly should come off in one piece.

is this correct? I can get the black plastic clips to release but not sure I am turning them enough.

before I break something am I on the right track?

Thanks

The cams/clips

Yep, might not be turning them enough. I don't recall you being able to turn them too far, just a single point pivot. Then the back side lifts up then you can pull it out pulling towards the tail lights.

This thread shows some pictures of the part that latches it on:

You're fine, pull those tabs all the way back towards you, providing you're standing behind the bike. Its a tight snug fit as it should be, then just lift up on the back and slide the front out, if that makes sense. as far as the backrest, you should have 4 bolts holding the backrest and the luggage rack, just remove them, slide the shorter backrest out, add the new longer one in, your good to go.

Those brackets have been known to rattle at certain rpm's. You can always replace the "removable" rack with a regular rack support system.
