Default Tool organization

Apologies up front if this is the wrong place to post such a question and if that's the case I won't be surprised if the mods move this to another forum...

Looking for ideas on how to best organize a tool box. I have a double deck craftsman, eight drawers total, and I'm somewhat of a neat freak with a need for organization. Right now, I've got tools on top of tools and it's driving me nuts. I have a foam type liner in the box with cut outs for tools, but over time it has degraded and become sloppy looking. I also have socket rails that were riveted to the drawers, but it's not as neat as I'd like and it's difficult to easily find the correct socket as there is nothing marking the tools by size. It's mostly the sockets for which I'm looking for ideas. If anyone has great ideas on how to organize your tools please share them. Thanks for reading...

I have two boxes. One for SAE tools and a few odds and ends and one for metric tools and a few odds and ends.

This foam has lasted for me:

Everything needs a place, that place needs to be clear when the tool is missing as well. Otherwise it just ends up where ever. Biggest thing that causes a mess seams to be putting too many tools in the spot. Yes it can fit, but can you still clearly make out where it is and if it's missing at a half second glance? If not, time for more room.

Split off the more commonly used tools to a tool cart, and leave the toolbox to the not so common tools. Free up some space in the toolbox. Nice to roll a cart next to what you are working on.

This is as organized as I get and in the middle of a job they seem to ALL be on the lift or workbench.

I do exactly what Nomadmax does, so much so I thought he took pics of my tool drawers. Kind of creepy. The only difference is I hang my screwdrivers on a pegboard.

et998, that's a good idea. I like having everything in one location. I have a work bench and a tool box. I kinda like simplicity.

Nomad that's a hell of a set up. I'm looking for similar organization and spots for each tool. I'm guessing more foam cutouts with additional socket rails may be the way to go. That and getting rid of duplicate items or things I thought I would need years ago, but haven't used ever...

The only advice I can add is to make sure when the job is completed that ALL your tools go back to their place in the box for the next job. This way nothing gets lost or misplaced.

Nomadmax, even if I got rid of 3/4 of my tools I couldn't get them all in a single stack set like that much less that organized. Got 11 foot of tool box along one wall bolted together with 2" finished top full and several cabinets and file drawers with more stuff. I really need to start downsizing

You should see the other side of the garage, stuff is bigger...
