Comfy seat, QD windshield and some forward controls with some stirrups. That should take care of your $1000. But is just a start. Let the wallet draining begin.
Hey fellow FXDC rider here
just a thought here as my dealer did the same for me....DONT FORGET THE INSTALL...remember, theyare not gonna put it on for free.....My bike left the door, with the riders essentials, chrome swingarm, chrome sproket cover, chrome lower belt guard, chrome, electric panel cover, chrome battery cover, chrome coil cover, chrome dash extension and a rain suit...my dealer gave me 20% off everything, and worked out a deal on the install since the rear end parts where able to be changed when they did the swing arm....also have added the diamond plate grips, front and rear pegs and shifter peg. Forward pegs, RUSH pipes!!!!(Well worth it), lay down chrome lisence plate, smoked lenses.....removed all the reflectors and the seat strap......I think thats all.....probably forgeting something though...Whatever you choose you will love it! Oh yeah got the windshield bag(a must have) and a helmet with face shield
Since it sounds like you are going to be doing a lot of riding two-up, I would look at the riders essentials kits. About $800, it has the windshield, sissy bar with backrest, luggage rack, and the quick detach sideplates. I would install it yourself though, as it is all bolt on and the dealer will probably charge you 2 hours labor which would eat up the rest of that money. If you are looking for the one, must have uipgrade, I say that is new pipes. The stock Harley pipes are crap. Everyone has their preferences, but my bike never left the dealership until there was Vance & Hines Big Shot Staggerds on it. What ever you go with, it will be money well spent as it is something that you would buy later anyways. Enjoy the new bike and ride safe.
So here is what I ended up ordering w/the bike:
- Sissy bar w/detatchable side plates and pad
- Service manual
- Electrical TS manual
- Turn signal relocation kit
- Sundowner seat
- Second pair of detatchable sideplates
- new helmet
Total: 1096.65
I'm going to use the second set of side plates for one of Jackyl's tour-pak mounts. The turn signal relocation kit is for aftermarket bags and "looks cool" factor, and I do most of my own work on stuff so - the service manuals.
I'll pick up a windshield on eBay or somethin'. Never used one so I don't have an opinion either way (yet). No pipes - I'll figure that out later.
Bike is on its way to the dealer, should be in any day now. I'll post pics.
