Default Newbie question

I am a rider but new to Harley's. There is a 1995 Wide Glide that is available from a private owner. Actually a woman that is not a rider but retained it from a earlier relationship. What is a good asking price? I am not interested in ripping her off, but hopefully she is interested in liquidating it with not much haggle.

Also, the local dealer tried to make me feel like it would be a mistake to buy a bike that old. He said it would be hard to get parts for and it is probably due for a overhaul ($$). I do know the guy (rider) who rode the bike and it was serviced regularly and well taken care of. Is the dealer trying to get me to buy one off his floor or is there really something to worry about? I could afford a new Bob but I really like the WG and the ability to carry a passenger. Let me know what you think - thanks!

look up blue book value, evaluate what you don't like on the bike (bling). why pay for something you don't want. then subtract some of the $$$ that it will take to get the WG back to road worthy and and your standards. there are enough aftermarket companies out there to support a 95' wg. the evo eng may be a bit weak but from what i've heard quite dependable. go for it.

Only thing to worry about is how it sat. If it was not stored properly, you will have some work to do. Fortunately, there are myriads of choices for a bike of that era. There are plenty of parts - maybe not from the MoCo, but plenty of parts nonetheless.

You can find parts for Harleys back to the dawn of time. That's one of the best things about them.

I know the low side of squat about bike maintenance; but from an objective point of view - like Grunt said if it was run and maintained -great ., If you want a bike you can jump on and ride w/o maintenance worriiesmay not be for you. Could be a good project bike (where is it?- Just kidding - or?).

I've always heard that owning aHarley built before 1998 will turn you into a motorcycle mechanic.

The most important questions would be if he was the only owner, how hardhe rode itand how it was stored while not in use. The dealer telling you that parts will be hard to find is BS. It's only 13 years old.
