I knew I wanted a WG based on a lot of the styling. I also had some specifics that led me to the 2007 that I wound up buying. Twin Cam 96CI engine, 6 speed transmission, 50mm front fork tubes, Fuel Injection & bobtail fender were on my wish list. I never really liked the 'bobbed' rear fender or the handlebars that the WG gravitated to after 2010, so that ruled out all the later models.

I eventually found what I was looking for and the only thing I had to concede on was the color. Keep looking...you'll find it.

Good luck in your search.
For give me, but when I had read this post before, I had totally missed the (Duke of New York) comment about my name. I had to Google it to find out it was a reference to the movie Escape from New York. I'd never known that.

A#1 was actually ......Emperor of the North Pole. It was the Mo****r of a hobo named Leon Ray Livingston. The reason I use it, is there's a movie about him, A#1 was played by Lee Marvin. Kinda a harsh son of a bitch like Tom Cody, but not quite as much badass. Well, baybe a bit in the final scenes of an axe/chain fight on a train with Earnest Borgnine. Hey....Tom Cody ended with a hammer fight, that's kinda funny. The movie hit a spark with me when I was a kid, and I wanted to be like him when I grew up.

It sound like you should go with a 2000-2005 Dyna TC88. They run cooler, quieter, more efficient, and with better oil circulation than the Evo. Also, not as prone to cylinder oil leaks. Something like this 2001 Wide Glide

It's all personal opinion/choice/style but what checked all of my boxes were my '07 WG. I've worked on and tuned single/multi carb set ups, but just don't want to anymore when modern FI makes those adjustments for me. I wanted a 6 speed for stretching the legs on the highway at a decent pace, and the option to go up in cubes and not wanting more later and having to do even more work than just a jug/head/cams setup.

This lead me to a 96" 6 speed bike that I couldn't be more happy with. The only "tinkering" I do on it is because I choose to, not out of necessity. Plenty of a/m add-ons to do to it if you so choose, or just leave it alone, hit the switch, and go. Like I said, checked all of my boxes, and even fell within the dollar amount you described and I picked this one up last year with under 7k miles and have been smiling since.

I found a deal of a bike for my buddy shortly after I picked mine up, however it's a TC 88" FI bike, which he loves. He said if he had to nit pick it was wishing he had the 6 speed, but loves it any way. Most of the time he and I hit 2 lane anyway, but, there are the times where the interstate is mandatory and I end up hanging back with him at a reasonable 75mph. In fact, we're doing an iron butt on our bikes this summer and have a route planned.

Keep us in the loop on what you choose.

from the dealer, it’s called a down tube bag. I forget how much I paid for it but I’m sure more than it’s worth. Lol!

Well, I hope I didn't get a cornholing at $6000, but I did it. ***** deep, just the way I like it.

The bike is a 1998, 95th anniversary model, 7609 miles on it, and I really found very few flaws. It's gonna need a new set of tires before I take it out of the hood, the tread looks fine but it has some little cracks in the sidewall. It has a few very small scuffs, a few wear spots, and some very minor rust. All things the didn't even make me look twice, and nothing I wouldn't expect on a 21 year old bike.

I picked the best bike/deal I could, I wasn't a fan of the color, but it's grown on me. The seller was a pretty cool dude, nice house, Lotsa nice toys. He'd gotten the bike from a local estate of a wealthy type guy.

He started it cold at about 38 degrees outside. It took some cranks but not more than I would expect. It coughed a while before it warmed up, and he didn't have to make love to the throttle to keep it running. When it was warm it sounded a lot like an engine running, nothing seemed wrong to me. Exhaust smelled of burnt gas. I know it sounds stupid, but I didn't want to test ride a bike like this after 23 years. I asked him to do it for me, this was on a smooth blacktop 55mph road. He did a moderate acceleration and I could hear it shifting, and on the way back he hit it hard. I thought it sounded great, Sounded like a Harley, loud, but not stupid, smooth through the RPM's, and the shifting sounded clean with out backfire.

This is what I brought home today. Right now, It's got an unknown set of drag bars, a LePera 1up seat, Samson mufflers, some twisty lookin front spokes, aluminum Fox rear shocks, and forward controls I believe.

I also got the stock parts to return to this configuration, which was what I wanted actually. I'm sure I'll have me a thread about what to do when I switch it back. I got The stock bars, a Harley windshield, stock luggage rack, sissy bar, seat, brackets, screws, stock foot controls, unknown saddle bags, an unknown crash bar, and a new Harley branded helmet.

There might be other stuff I haven't found yet, I honestly don't know, lol. So if anyone can point out something I got, or maybe identify some stuff, I'd love to know.
