Default Dyna love

I am just now getting back into riding and bought a 883 Sportster just to get back in. The plan was to ride this for a while and then later decide if I want to move up or remain with a Sportster. I've always loved the dyna's and thought they were very cool looking and very practical for my type of riding. Basically day trips and cruising from St Augustine down to Daytona. Having fun of course this week down there.
. Several questions for you guys and gals.... why the discontinuation of the Dyna? What is the most sought-after Dyna? When I talk to the dealers they of course tell me that the new Softails are much better than the old Dynas...... what I read however tells me that may not be true.

I absolutely love my 17' lowrider, traded in my sporty for and believe me I loved the sporty! In my humble opinion the Dyna is the machine to have.

The new softtail bikes are nice. Very smooth and lots of torque. But to me, they are still too new and wont have the bugs worked out for a few more model years. They've already had quite a few recalls. Had a buddy tell me I was crazy for thinking this, then his brand new bike got a recall for the clutch not disengaging. lol

You can probably find a left over 17 dyna brand new for a very good price. In michigan there is a dealer that has 2 2017 Fatbobs left over for 12,995.

Why the discontinuation? Corporate cost cutting and poor (relatively) sales. Consolidated models under one new "softail" frame.

Most sought after? Debatable. Various special editions, and early FXDXT, and FXDL-S are probably tops of that list

"Better" or "Worse" with regard to the new Softails is kinda down to personal taste and desires. On paper, it's a superior bike. Most regard the handling as better and the engine as smoother. I have zero interest in the M8 but the frame/suspension intrigues me. Dump a stout big bore Evo in there and get rid of the electronics and it might have something for me. Others think they're the cat's pajamas. The FXDR is the only one that even vaguely interests me...but that damn M8...

Best Dyna? Everyone is going to be rooting for their model (I know I am), each one has something a little different to offer. If you have the opportunity, test ride a dyna and then the new softail and find the one that tickles your fancy.

The old style Dyna's were discontinued for couple of years, then HD came out with a common frame for it's non touring models and in my opinion have bastardize the Dyna name by calling them Softtail Dyna. The resemblance to a softail is the free swing arm not having the visible shocks. Now they have the shock and adjustment somewhere under the seat. The bean counters saved money using common parts and the engineers uggraded the frame to enhance the ride and try to bring in new and younger riders. I have two of the older Dyna's and people still stop to ask questions about them, especially the engine rocking on the rubber mounts.

Discontinuation? Low sales and outdated. The new Softails are better motorcycles. That being said, i traded my '18 Softail in for a Low Rider S.
