A heat shield hose clamp rubbing the frame drove me crazy before I found the problem.

I'm not pickin' at anyone, but what did y'all do before rubber mounting? My '94 Sportster laughed at red Loctite & would spit a turn signal loose every 600 miles or so. Rode that bike half way across the country & back & never thought anything of it. I dunno. I just thought Harleys vibrated? Seriously, I'm amazed at how smooth my '02 is. Not the best design in the world for handling, but very smooth & nailed the 'vibe' of the 4 speed bikes, IMO.

Years ago, I ride a rigid Ironhead Sportster to Americade in Lake George, NY. Getting fuel at an Interstate rest area, I saw my plate was missing. My first assumption was that the two bolts vibrated out, but no... The bolts were still there, nice and tight with their lock washers. And under each washer was a perfectly round, washer-sized piece of license plate.

All my other Harleys have been smooth runners.

Used to love takin' girls for a putt on the Sportster. Didn't usually take more than 5 or 10 minutes before I was getting groped & "let's go back to your place" whispered in my ear. Ahh, to be young & single again...
