I replaced my battery for this season 2014 Fat Bob, right at the end of last seasaon. It was on it's original battery and it was time to go. No more VINERR (basically, more below).
I suppose you could test to be sure, from what I understand likely the voltage drops enough the computer doesnt sync up properly with the odometer during startup, and it gets reported as VINERR. Luckily the only time it wouldn't start, it was in my driveway. It was getting worse barely starting after work one time. I was hobbling along making sure i only had it on tender if it was going to sit at all etc etc, until I could have a vehicle place droop test it, but it just got worse. Never bothered. It is fine now. I did get the message once, and thought maybe I was lazy and should have gone through all the possibilties, but that just seemed to be a fluke a few rides after i got it out of storage and newish battery off the tender (battery off the bike just on a tender for the winter in the house). No issues since in 3+ months.

Check your grounds especially the main ground under the battery. While there check for damaged wiring. The harness can rub and cause shorts, not sure if this affects other dynas but has happened on a few Switchbacks I know off.
