So the next money I'm going to put into my 2012 FXDC is going to be in the suspension. It seems like a few years ago Ricor was a big topic of discussion here, but I don't seem to see anyone discuss them any more. Any comments about that?
My plans are to put in a Predator mount (I have one in my '07) and then spend no more than $1000 on front and rear suspension combined. Probably Emulators or Intiminators and springs in the front, and then new shocks for the rear. Not sure what yet.
Ricor is a decent product but terrible at communication. We stopped carrying them at the shop since we can't get emails answered or parts in or any type of regular communication from them. Most people that come to us now get a cartridge kit like Ohlins or in my case GP Suspension.
I have the. Rico intimidators with Traxxion springs and I love the set up, soooo much better then stock...It glides over the bumps now.
Traxxion springs are made to your weight and single wound..which is what you want if your doing springs...now if you go to cartridge suspension that’s a whole different thing...

Cartridge sounds great, but like I said my budget is 1K for both front and rear, so that's why I figure intiminators or emulators with new springs for the front. I do my own work so I won't have to pay for installation.
I had intiminators on my 06 dyna and in my 14 current. I like them a lot. I don't have anything else to compare them to because I have had stock and ricor intiminators only. I had sport tuned rear ricor shocks on my 06. There was good and bad points for those. The good is they hold the road great. In the twistys they feel real good ( miles ahead of the stock stocks), on the highway at highspeed like triple digits something magic happens to them and the bike just felt amazing like it dropped down and was more stable at speed. Granted the bike had true track and steering damper also. on big bumps they resonded fine. Ok so here is the bad part for me. On little bumps or washboard type ripples they are terrible. I mean to the point where I trained myself to go home a different way. Again they were sport tuned to my weight, I know the have a touring tuned shock and that I have never tried. The next is good and bad news I guess. In the years I had them I blew the seal twice. That means that when I sold the bike I was on my 3rd seals. Ricor replaced them for free and I did not have any customer service trouble at all. To me they were easy to deal with, but again this was 6-7 years ago too, so who knows. It is still a hassle to remove rear shocks and mail them in for a free fix. Luckily I had the stock stocks to put on during the repairs.
I have the stock rears on my 14 lowrider and if/when I replace them I am not going to use ricor.

Thanks for that. Right now I'm thinking either intiminators OR emulators in the front. No decision yet, I may just go with whichever is cheaper. Rear shock I had already decided not to use the ricors, but I don't know what yet. The Legend Revos look pretty interesting but that may push my budget too much. Probably a fall or winter project, so I don't have to make a decision right now.
I put race tech gold valves in a Heritage softail and Road Glide Ultra- they were impressive especially the RGU going to Alaska and back.
I’m in a similar situation as you with budget and options with my 07Street Bob. Looking to go with 13 or 13.5” shocks and RT for the front end.
Not sure why but most shocks with rebound cost around $800-$1000 and cartridges are just as expensive.
do the thought is get a decent shock with rebound and use RT gold valves
Check out DK Customs web site, they have a nice write up about rear shocks...it’s a good read and might help you narrow a set down...for the fronts I would probably go gold valves etc....unless you can get a set of the Rico’s cheaper....I was able to find a set brand new never installed where the customer sold the bike a just wanted to get rid of them, I think I paid $75.
You could also contact Howard at motorcycle metal I think it is, he is a guru at suspension
I have Ricor intimators in my Wide Glide and Race Tech Gold emulators in my low rider. They both work about the same and are a great product. Customer service definitely better with Race Tech. You might want to look at Progressive 490 for the rear. I have them on my Wide Glide and really like them.
