When I buy my next new car, I'm gonna take the air bag out of it. Use common sense, that air bag goes off and it might hit you. That could hurt, might even leave a mark.
Safety Features?? They're "interlocks" and can create nasty electrical gremlins. If you need a light to tell you what gear you are in, whether the stand is up, or if it's in gear, you could buy a GoldWing. It even has an airbag!! IMHO!

I have learned the hard way that my '06 FXDI (and I'm assuming most other HD's) do not have some basic safety features that far less expensive scoots do. One is an engine cutoff feature if you try and engage the clutch while she is in gear with the jiffy stand down. The other is a neutral safety switch or in other words...
I had one of those silly clutch interlock switches on my '87 Fiero. But I didn't know the dam thing was there until it failed and the car wouldn't start and I was stuck. It was a PITA a-- to track down. And when I found it I was so disgusted that I jumpered it out. I had the same problem with my '95 Honda Magna. The kick stand interlock switch went bad and I got stuck again - this time at a gas station after a fill up. I've had it with all these stupid faux-safety interlocks. If you can't <snipped for politeness>... Suffice to say I think they're useless and have been proven to decrease reliability at the worst possible times - at least on my vehicles.
That's a good question. A friend of mine got some new V&H big shots and I wanted to hear them. We were both pretty drunk and failed to notice that it was in gear. Bike lurched forward like a foot, but that's about it.
it's situations like that i am talking about.................i've been riding seven years and while that may not be as long as many of you, i think its a good long while. people are human, and mistakes can be made. that being said, i want to say thanks and my problem is now solved because i will never forget the torching i got over this every time i go to start my scoot. c ya
Now don't let them feel like they did something useful!!
And if starting a bike when you are pretty drunk is a good example, well....
badabing, don't be so sensitive on the internet. Many of us have had bikes with and without this feature and it seems that most of the posters (myself included) prefer to not have these features. One, I don't need the mfg to think for me and two, it's another thing to break.
Now let this flaming roll off your back and get back to riding
badabling, if you would like i am sure that i could figure out the neutral/no start thing for ya. a simple single throw relay and some careful wiring and done. i will consult my service manual and give you specific wiring diagram for the install. myself i always check for the neutral light at the same time i watch for theengine light to go off before starting.
The 07 models up will not start in gear unless you pull in the clutch,hd added an interlock to prevent just that...so upgrade get an 07 the 96 inch with a sixspeed is great....first few bikes I owned didnt have turn signals got used to using hand signals...get used to pulling in the clutch...youll be happier...
