Last week my wife called me at work, which was unusual, to ask me how quickly I could come up with some cash. Of course, I asked why, and she told me she found one. She’s know I wanted one since I bought my first HD (FXST) back in ‘05 but couldn’t afford one. My wife works for HD in parts and a long time customer of hers mentioned he was looking to sell his FXDX. She said we can afford it and you want it, so do it. Yes, my wife IS amazing!
This is how she sat when I picked her up Tuesday evening, and the PO threw in some spare parts. She has been punched out to a 95 with cams, along with a baker dd6, and rides out strong. Our good friend has been the wrench on this bike for the last 10 years or so.
Now for all the customization to begin...
First thing is a set of the further forward mids and a seat to bring me back (35 in inseam!). Lookin at a Le Pera Silhouette full length for a seat, unless someone has other recommendations. Then taller risers and some powder coating this winter. Eventually a compete suspension rehab and a narrow belt conversion when it’s time for a rear tire.
Y’all are right, wife isn’t going anywhere if I have anything to say about it!
As for the scoot, it’s a ‘project’... I have a ton of plans that will transform it a little and improve a lot. I’m excited to have one that is only limited by money.
Added the extended mids, new pegs, bitwell high trackers, new grips, and 6 inch pullback risers. Also changed the fuel lines and bled the brakes. I need to swap the front brake lines because I don’t like how kinked the master cylinder connection is. It’s a 90 degree banjo, and I could swap just that but the lines are old anyway. Which means I’ll need to do the throttle cables and clutch line as well; things have to match.
Next up is getting rid of the vacuum petcock, replacing intake seals, and going through the carb. Probably do an air cleaner (thinking Ness) while I’m there.
Ramjet Racing caliper brackets and newer bagger Brembos up front. Nice that it already has the later adj rear shocks too. I’m perpetually on the hunt for a clean set of those.
