I have a Dyna Low Rider 2006 and I am planning replacing the rear shocks. The reason is an old neck injury. If the shocks hit the bottom hard, I will not be able to go to work for a week. If they bottom slightly, I feel it the next days as pain inside my neck joint.
I am looking for a real good pair of shocks which are comfortable, are looking nice and will never hit the bottom.
I have the same ride. I tried the 11" Progressive 412 and they are better than the stock but still a bit rough. I now have the 13" Progressive 444 with standard springs and they have a nice bounce to them. Look great too.
The best shocks I've ever had on a bike are Ohlins. You can get them a little longer than stock, maybe .5 to 1 inch over, and that will give you even more travel and comfort.
If the Stockholm in your sig is the one in Sweden you're in luck.
RWD rs-1 has the internal bypass technology that will reduce bottoming significantly. They know their stuff after being in offroad truck game for a long time.
Shorter shocks generally have heavier duty springs. Some, so heavy duty that they don't really absorb shocks, but rather transmit those shocks to your spine.
I had the same problems with my back. Switched to Ohlins in the rear. Problem solved. Then you'll realize how bad the front suspension is compared to the rear. Ohlins has a solution for that as well.
