Default 03 Wide Glide Electic Issues

Was riding on a warm and dry day when speedo and odometer started flickering. When I would let off the throttle it would work, when I would get back into it, they’d go out. Stopped, let her sit for a couple of minutes, fired it back up and made it about two likes before it started bucking and sputtering so I killed it. Never got it to refire.

Got it home for testing. No headlight, no odometer, no turn signals, no start. If I jump the battery to the starter solenoid with the power switch on it will start and run. Any ideas!?

Have you load tested the battery? Just checking with meter can be misleading and not show true condition of battery. Slow charge overnight and load test and check charging system.

Also check all ground connections while your at it.

When checking the grounds, tug on the cable going into the lug. Had a Sportster do the same thing and found the cable going to the starter had two strands left in the cable.

More than likely it’s your battery cables....make sure they are clean and tight....clean and tight. Clean them even if they look good...

But I shift by feel so don't need it.

But good luck finding your issue, please post so I can check it with mine.

Yeah, could just as easily be one of the positive cables as the grounds.

Default Update

Battery good and fully charged. Terminals and connectors cleaned.

No headlight, no odometer, no turn signals, etc still. However when I switch the headlight to bright, the blue indicator comes on but no light. Horn works, brake light works, stereo works. Can start the bike by jumping to the starter so I’m going to do that and go ride until something happens...

Default Update again

Took it for a ride. Once it dies, if I don’t cycle the ignition before I jump the starter, then it will not start. But if I turn it off, back on, then jump the starter, it will start again. Did this 3 times on the 20 minute ride.
