Default Big Time Sucks!!!

Went out today to take the bike for a ride and found the rear tire almost flat. Has what looks like a nail or some metallic object imbedded in it. Looks like I'll be shelling out for a new tire. Only have 6075 miles on it and the tread looks in excellent shape. Oh well, at least I wasn't out on the highway with it before I discovered it. Now I have to decide, do I want to replace it with the original 160/70B17 or do I upgrade to the 180? All points of view are appreciated. Thanks in advance for your opinions. If anybody has done the 180 upgrade please tell me if you noticed any difference in the handling. My quote btw was $171 for the tire (160/70B17, original) and about thirty dollars more for the 180.

If you have cast wheels, and it's just a nail hole, I'd plug the tire. If you have spoke wheels, I'd patch the inside of the tire and put a new tube in. If your just lookin' for a reason to go to a 180 tire, go for it. If something ain't worn out and can be fixed, that's what I do. For what we pay for bike tires, I'll get every mile I can out of 'em.

Flats suck! I'd go with the 180.

Just plug it. Don't spend all that money for a tire when you don't need to.

I see you have an 06 FXDL with cast wheels.
You can plug the hole if it's a round nail type of
metal object. Just keep it under 80 mph until you
replace the tire. Otherwise replace it with a 180.

Plug it. If you are afraid of plugs, tube it.

Definitely plug it. There is nothing wrong with a tire plug if it's done correctly.

If you are gung ho on replacing the tire then plug it and do a smoke show. Just video tape it for us.
