Hi guys,
On my 2002 FXD with charging system defective, my meter shows up to 50VAC accross the stator 2 outputs while I get 7 VDC at the regulator output.
I guess the regulator is out but it tests good with the meter on "diode" showing 0vdc from output to both imputs. What do you think ?
Thanx
Bought a Ford voltage regulator and hooked it up to my motorcycle. Output: 13.5 V. Not an original Harley part for sure. Don't care on a bobber.
Harley part : 150 $
Ford: 48$.

What rpms? It goes up with rpms. If you are raved up, than bad. 20ish per 1000
I would think more then 7 though. I never measured it disconnected from battery.
The stock reg. is set for 13.5 V at idle and 14.2-14.5V at 2000 rpm and above. If that's the original rec/reg then it has served well. After my second stock rec/reg failed on my 02 FXD, I put on a Cycle Electric unit and that was in 2007. I think the second failure was one I caused by using di-electric grease on the pins, like I said my fault before I really understood the properties of di-electric grease.

You are supposed to use dielectric grease. I am sure I put on my volt reg around 35k miles ago.
I just bought this stuff in a can like cheese wiz, I had a big junction block for the rear lights on my truck to change out.
