I don't always, though I should. As others have said, I often pray a bit while riding.
A while back, I read what I thought was a good idea, though I sometimes forget to do it. The idea was of taking 60 to 90 seconds ANYtime you're about to start a ride to get yourself "in the game" mentally. For many, that might include a bit of prayer- including me.
But either way, the idea is to clear the mind and emotions before the ride- getting focused on what you're about to do instead of continuing to think about the fight you just had with your wife, or what an jerk your boss is, or why the bills just keep coming in the mail.
The primary reason of course- to get focused on riding defensively, staying alive, watching for other drivers, etc., instead of thinking about the crap that normally occupies our brain adn emotions. Beyond that, it's just good to be "in the present" and enjoying what it is we do- instead of "going through the motions" while continuing to worry about things we probably can't fix anyway.
I don't pray ... i wish I had the belief to do so ... I mentally pause, take breathe before i get on the bike each time and focus ... even if its down to the shop. I've got a routine where I start the engine before i put my gloves on just to give me 30 seconds to declutter my thinking before i get on.
In the last2 1/2years I have lost my wife, my father, and my favorite twopets, all to death. Also, my lucrative career, and my mother (to dementia).
In between all that, I bought a new Super Glide Custom. Therapy, you know....
Excuse me for being a Godless heathen. Circumstances and all.... Life has kicked my a$$ enough to believe in only what I can see...
Don't you dare pray for me. I just look up, down, right. left, and backwards for all the idiots on the road.
My Godchild and my fiancee make me care enough to do all that looking, so I actually care about coming back home alive. Still, get the hell out of my way, that is not a place anyone wants to be!
Very sorry for your loses, sometimes life does kick us in the teeth, but as you have found out I'm sure, one has to bend over and grab his boot straps and pull them on and go forward with life, sounds like your doing just that.
I don't believe in any higher power, so why should I pray?
I don't believe that I said anybody should believe in a higher power, nor did i say anybody should pray..I never push helmets or releigion..your barking at the wrong guy here..perhaps just a mistake in posting, I'm thinking that is what it is.
