Start problem when warm
Hi guys,
Any ideas why this is happening?? Happens when the engine has been running for a while and warm.

Its a 2007 Street Bob with the stock 96in motor. Local dealer tells me I need ACR valves drilled into the head.
Thanks!

Have experienced it as well. Especially when you have been riding and stop to get gas. Go to restart a few minutes later and you get a high idle.
My '07 Street Bob started doing something very similar to that at around 65,000 miles. Like yours, only when hot. New starter clutch fixed it. Less than 100 bucks and pretty easy to replace if you're mechanically inclined. Good youtube videos on replacing one.

You say stock. Sure it does not have a aftermarket tuner. Something is wrong with idle circuit. All that beating and banging is typicial of a confused FI motor on a second turn of hitting the starter after a failed startup
Could be the IAC valve. Or temperature reader in throttle body. Either can get trashed by someone spraying cleaner in throttle body.
Next hot start, open throttle 1/8" and crank. Be sure to hold in start button long enough that it's on both cylinders. If that help, it's getting to much fuel.
Clean butterfly and throat of throttle body with cleaner on a cotton cloth.
Check that Fuel injectors are not dripping at shut off.
Key on and off and on observing IAC pintol point that on that last key on, it jumps open for air. Key off, it jumps fully closed to stop air so your old girl does not diesel like old hot Harley's could do..
If not, it's probably the temperature switch.

Had a similar sound from my Sporty i used to own. Only happened when it was hot. Replaced the starter clutch and problem fixed. Wasn't hard to do and was a fraction of the cost for a new starter.
