Well, I have to start somewhere! Tools specifically for working on the Dyna.

I would recommend a primary locking bar and a torque wrench.

I'm still collecting tools for mine but will have to switch to parts soon. I suspect the first thing I am going to do is finally invest in the Harbor Freight lift and make the mod to it. Then get the gaskets for the primary, transmission side cover, and oil pan. I'll get those out of the way. Then I will get the primary chain locking tool and a torque wrench for in/lbs since my current one does ft/lbs from 10-200. Oh, and some dielectric grease.

and a torque wrench
Many people have said the price point for the kind of torque wrenches we are likely to purchase are not very accurate at the ends of the scale.

I opted for a small 1/4" drive, medium with 3/8" drive and large 1/2" drive to cover the ranges of stuff I am likely to work on my bike.

Craftsman torque wrenches are accurate enough and moderately priced, especially if you can get them on sale. As an Aircraft mechanic, I have to get mine calibrated annually and they always pass. One is 50 years old now. The 3/8" one with 10-75 ft-lb range will meet most of your needs.

The $20 ones are a crap shoot.

How comprehensive do you want to get? I've had to buy quite a few special tools for my '00 FXDWG over the years, depending on the job at hand.

I’ve read and heard that one shouldn’t use those holes for measurements. Is that wrong?

It's in the manual ... What's your year?

Here's from a 2013 Manual ... should be close to yours
