Last Spring I sold my cherished 2004 XL1200X to buy a BMW R1150RT. I think the sexy lines of the BMW seduced me!
Great running bike, great brakes and Suspension; but, I hated it! So I sold it off late April.
The same day I purchased a used 2015 Honda NC700X. An extremely reliable "little" bike with absolutely no character! Sold it in September.
Early September I purchased a well equipped, little used, 2014 Suzuki DL1000 VStrom. Best bike of the summer! Power, comfort, reliability, ABS, traction control, etc.... it bored me, no character; but, I did try a little gravel road riding until I watched a buddy drop his $25K BMW GS1250.. OMG! He also broke his ankle. Decided that day I was too old for off road adventure riding!
Then, just a couple of weeks ago while on vacation, I stumbled across a Craigslist ad wanting to trade a low mileage 2011 FXDC for a larger displacement Adventure Bike. A few emails, a couple of phone calls, a road trip to inspect each other's bikes; and, I have a "new to me" 2011 FXDC in my shop . A bike-for-bike swap! No taxes due, just a standard registration and title change required.
What can I say, I guess I suffer from Motorcycle ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).
Anyway, I got all that out of my system over the summer months and I'm back on a Harley!!!
Sounds a bit like my just finished summer. I returned to riding in 2017 after a long absence and started off with a 650 Suzuki S40. Actually loved that bike just because it has so much character but sold it because I wanted more bike so I then got a C50T Suzuki 800 which was a good bike but absolutely without any soul. If taken care of I think that bike will still be around for 200K miles with no trouble. But, I only owned it a month early on this last summer because I found a very clean 98 Goldwing. Drove that beast about 2 months and because of the weight and size and because I did not want to put any money into it which it needed for reliability, I traded it for an 02 Low Rider. Now, I have a real motorcycle and am loving it. My first Harley ever after riding for close to 40 years. I sure wasted a lot of time but I do know that I have arrived/
