Default School me

Good day Fellas, I'm in search of a basic education about this 1979 FXE Super Glide. I come from the Sportster side of the tracks, and dont know much about Dynas, especially one this old. It's been sitting for about 8 years. My buddies dad passed away, he inherited it and I'm going to attempt to help him get it road worthy again. It means a lot to him especially since he is battling non Hodgkin's lymphoma and would love to ride this as his father did before him. He's spending every dime he's got battling cancer and cant afford to take it to a mechanic, so I'm going to do everything I can for him. I have started looking for a service manual and gettting some basic info. any knowledge you can give me would be greatly appreciated
1979 FXE Super Glide

#1- its not a dyna. Its an FX.
If you are seeking knowledge- you should refer to the Shovelhead section. Lots of guys there with vast knowledge.

Dude, that is a Shovelhead, not a Dyna. A Dyna is a rubber mounted Harley that came out much later.

Drop this question over in the Shovelhead section under Classic, all the help you could need will be found. Good luck.

I don't know what I don't know and half of what I do is incomplete. The other half is either forgotten or wrong.

Considering you think a 79 Shovelhead is a Dyna . . . . and you are going to "help him" get it going. Good luck with that.

Considering the FX designation is used for Dynas, its not to much of a stretch to have assumed its a Dyna. I knew that I didn't know much about this bike, but thanks for the help
