Actually I think it's an easy mistake for people to make especially if they were getting more familiar with Harleys after 1992 (introduction of Dyna). The shock placement and battery cover have look of a Dyna.

If you are seeking knowledge- you should refer to the Shovelhead section. Lots of guys there with vast knowledge.

Drop this question over in the Shovelhead section under Classic, all the help you could need will be found. Good luck.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The guys over in the shovelhead section have been very helpful

yup, saw the shocks and the FX designation and assumed it was a Dyna. Been fun learning about an older HD

Exactly. Nobody knows everything and only fools forge ahead without asking questions.

I'm a FIRM believer in the "There is no such thing as a stupid question." adage. I spent many years training folks at my last job (and my kids at home) and I learned a LOT just figuring out answers to some seeming very basic questions.

Well, I don't know about that

Ok if I give that to you, can we agree that there is such a thing as a Stupid follow-up question?

Huh

OK, well...we're talking about people here, so there is no place for absolutes such as the old adage above. As such, I mean it as a generalization.

Obviously there ARE stupid questions (and follow-ups).

However, in my experience, almost any question I've heard from a reasonably capable person and coming from a place of earnest has had merit.

It sometimes takes understanding the person's background, and/or relevant aptitude to decide on the proper course of answers but patience tends to win out.

Some people are just not suited to some disciplines and some people are just....well...stupid. No fault of theirs. I've had the heartbreaking duty of washing out a couple people that just couldn't learn what was required, despite trying hard. A couple others were plenty smart enough but just lazy as ****...those weren't so heartbreaking to give the boot.

OP: I hope things are going well with your project.

I used to think that as well. Then I started hanging around here. To paraphrase Lew Wallace: "All calculations based on our experiences elsewhere fail in HDForums."

Just a few of the questions I've seen here in the last 10 years:

If another rider stops next to me at a traffic light, is it OK to talk to him?

Does this helmet make me look like the Great Gazoo?

Does this helmet make me look like a mushroom?

What handlebars will make me look badass when going down the street?

Does this jacket make me look gay?

and my favorite, What color should I paint my bike?

You can say it ... "Does this helmet make me look like a mushroom Dick Head ? (phallic) ...

You put that question in the middle to see if we were reading, didn't you?
