Actually keyless sounds like a great idea BUT the problem still comes back to my speedometer issue, I am unable to find a replacement as they are obsolete, I did buy a Drag Specialties copy but it has white LEDs lighting it up whereas the Tachometer has orange LEDs and as they both sit side by side it is VERY noticeable... and sadly these are the small surface mounted LEDs, not replaceable bulbs which could be switched out. The other annoying problem is the DS speedo doesn't send a signal to the Turn Signal Control Unit to cancel it... I know this might seem trivial but after riding this bike for over 20 years and not having to switch them off... I keep forgetting to turn off the turn signals (and I find nothing more annoying than following someone for miles upon miles with their turn signal mindlessly flashing away like a newbie).
This is how the Drag Specialties Speedo with White LEDs looks like sitting beside the OEM Tacho with Orange LEDs... and it bugs the **** out of me.
Thank you very much for the link, it's not Km/h BUT I can cope with converting it from MPH as long as it is the right diameter, I have my fingers crossed on the reply from the seller.
Cheers,
Glenn

I checked out the auction and it says this Speedo is from an FXDX-T (Dyna Super Glide T-Sport)... I checked out the part number and then contacted the seller who says the Speedo was working perfectly when he tested it. The thing is... the part number is for a Sportster!!
I then had an epiphany... if a MPH Sportster Speedo works in an FXDX-T, then a Km/h Sportster Speedo should work in an FXDX... MAYBE the basic operating structure of the Speedos are all the same and the different part numbers distinguish the actual cosmetics, like the face of the Speedo, the color of the retaining/trim ring and the needle style (and the shape of the plug on the back, even though they all seem to have 12 pins to the plug)... I hope my explanation is relatively clear as my mind isn't (at 2am with me fighting to keep my eyes open long enough to type this). I'll keep everyone posted of my findings.
Thanks for that, but I had a look at that one and it according to the workshop manual that fits an FXD, I might be mistaken but I believe the FXD (along with the FXDL and the FXDWG) had a slightly larger diameter speedo (same size as the Softails) to the twin gauge setup on the FXDX and FXDXT. After some research I found that a couple of the Sportsters use the exact same "twin gauge" mounting bracket, so it's pretty safe to assume that the Sportster gauge would fit, I am hoping that due to the Sportster gauge having the exact same plug in the back of it, that the wiring would be the same (I have a 2012 FLD / FXDF / FXDC Speedo here and although it would fit into the bracket, the plug on the back is totally different)... but time will tell as I bought a 2001 Sportster Speedo (#67285-99A)... now it's a waiting game until it arrives.
Just a FWIW (because you're past this point now )... FXD FXDL FXDX are same size, but not the FXDWG
Thank you very much for letting me know, I just wish I had known that two years ago as I could have fitted one of the other ones instead of this Drag Specialties which I really dislike. At least if this Sportster Speedo doesn't work I can now look at a wider range.
Hi all, I had an accident a number of months back and while there wasn't even a scratch on the paintwork I managed to smash the speedometer on my 2001 Dyna Super Glide Sport, the insurance company came to the party and paid for the repairs BUT the speedo (#68938-99A) was obsolete. I eventually tracked down a Drag Specialty (DS) speedo which almost looks identical to the original and works okay... but I found a couple of irritations with it, the first being the LEDs in the DS speedo are white whereas the original (AND the Tachometer sitting right beside it) has orange LEDs, the second problem is the DS speedo DOESN'T send a speed signal to the Turn Signal Module (TSM) which means I have to remember to turn the turn signals OFF after each turn at an intersection I make (I have ridden for miles with the damn thing flashing before remembering to turn it off) and the third thing I noticed just today is that sitting at 110 KM/H (yes, it's metric) the needle fluctuates about 5 KM/H while sitting at a steady speed.
My primary goal is to find a genuine replacement speedo (even second-hand would be okay), does anyone know where I could look (either in the US or Canada... or elsewhere) that may have a NOS unit sitting on the shelves gathering dust?
or the Dual (MPH & KM/H) speedo (#68940-99A) would also be acceptable (but it is obsolete as well).
or does anyone know if there are any businesses which changes out the KM/H speedos to MPH speedos when bikes are purchased in Canada and brought south across the border?
or does anyone know of Harley wreckers/dismantlers in Canada?
Failing this, does anyone know of a good after-market Speedo & Tacho assembly which has the ability to send the signal to the TSM to cancel the turn signal (just as the OEM does)?
or... as a last resort, does anyone know if this DS speedo can be modified to send a signal to the TSM?
or is there some sort of a timing circuit I could incorporate into this setup?
Thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide.
Sincerely,
Glenn (in Australia)
Glenn, I know this is an old post but I have a 2000 FXDX I need to replace the speedo on and I see you used one of the Drag Specialties units. Can you tell me how the OEM wiring connected to the back of the speedo? Does the replacement speedo have wiring that is hard wired inside it and then has to be connected to the outside harness('s) or, hopefully the OEM wiring will plug and play into the back of the DS speedo.
I have two wires/cables that run into the back of my speedo. Hopefully the OEM wiring plugs into the back of the DS speedo as this would be an easier install.
If anyone else has installed a replacement DS speedo on a FXDX that wants to chime in that would be great. Thanks all.
