Default Problem with mating after powder coat

Hello all,
I have a 2007 FXD. I just got some parts back from powder. Two of them were the brake pedal and the front peg mount. When I went to put the back together the C clip wouldn't secure around the post that mounts the pedal to the peg mount. After a wee bit of dremel grinding it seems to be holding on by seeing as it's a pretty important safety feature I'm not feeling super secure. Has anyone powder coated these parts and encountered similar problems? What was your solution. Any help would be appreciated.

I've powdered those items (two sets of them, actually) and numerous other pieces (like, half my bike). My coater does a great job masking critical surfaces and passages, but it's still very common that I need to do a little bit of sanding, cleaning, and grinding to achieve the fit I want. The answer to your concern really depends how confident you are that your cleanup allows the parts to fit properly. If they still don't fit, you should be concerned about it. If they fit well, you should be good to go.

You need to find a powder coater who knows what he's doing

Before I started coating my own parts I would use blue painters tape to show the powder coater what surfaces I wanted masked.

Use a very thin file and carefully remove coating without removing metal.

I had those parts powdered but I always Mark and discuss masking with the shop when I drop off parts. This includes surfaces that shouldn't even be sanded or blasted. Powder is pretty thick and should always be kept off of mating surfaces and passages unless designed for it.

Dremel sounds pretty aggressive but if you have a light touch, doable. I'm not familiar with the late model peg/brake arrangement. My 99 uses a threaded fastener. Regardless, if the clip is secure (requiring a tool to remove), I wouldn't stress over it. If it can be jarred loose...be afraid. If it is too loose, find a smaller clip or use an alternate security method, like safety wire, cotter pin, etc.
