Well the lockdown has given me time to focus on and hopefully finish a long running project. I have 06 Street Bob and I wanted to give it a fatter front end but I'm on a limited budget so I've tried to reuse parts from other Harleys as much as possible. It's getting close to finished so I'll post some pictures when it's done. I've tried to research if anyone else has done it this way in the hope of getting some guidance but got nowhere. So maybe this is unique in a small way.
So starting with the base Street Bob I've used;
- '08 Fat Bob trees
- '08 Fat Bob front fender
- Hawg halters wide glide kit
- '07 FXDB rear rim (17")
- Fat Boy front tyre/tire (140/75x17")
So to start off with I had the '07 rear rim re-chromed and laced to the original '06 Street Bob front hub. This was problematic even for the guy I used who is an expert wheel builder. Anyway that got done eventually.
Then got the tyre fitted with tube and balanced
Fitted the wide glide trees and mounted up the front wheel using the Hawg Halters kit
A little bit of fettling was needed to make the front fender sit nicely snug to the front tyre. It's actually a little bit narrower than the front tyre which I'm hoping won't be a problem when I go to get it MOT'd
I love the way the fat front end looks and I'm looking forward to finding out how it rides.
I'm sure this look could have been achieved much more cheaply and easily in the US probably using 16" wheels but the cost of parts in the UK is prohibitive and my funds are limited.
I'm really keen to know if anyone else has done this or similar? Pictures on the way
99 Wide Glide with a mix of 49mm Wide Glide and Fat Bob front end parts. Plus a decent bit of other aftermarket and custom work. Fairly properly Frankensteined. About the only thing I haven't changed in some way is the transmission.
This is the only one I have head on at the moment, in my very messy garage. I was a bit worried that the testers would pick up on the front fender which is slightly narrower than the tyre but they said nothing.
