I dread changing oil filters, I have yet to come up with a method that doesn't make a mess. How is everyone else doing it ?
I have tied the pop bottle, I have one of this fancy flex funnels, I have punctured the end of the filter and let it drain and every time when I spin off the old filter oil pours all over the engine and motor mount.
please teach me !
I gave up on the stock location and put a DK custom filter relocation kit on both bikes. Easy access, cooler engine temps but more importantly no mess now.
This is what I use, works perfect. I typically put down a single shop paper-towel under it. I don't use the nail is it seems a bit short, I use a 12" center punch I have to punch the hole.

The more expensive one has a ridge at the end to prevent roll off and fits in the edge of the filter, it's also ribbed for strength, or maybe even for her pleasure <G>
