Installing forward controls on my 2016 FXDB. Looking for a cap for my shifter out of the primary. Most I can find are the “heel shaft caps” will those still work or is there a better option?
Do it right and pull the inner and outer primary and replace the lever on the transmission, it is a different length and angle for the forwards...then while you're doing that, slide that old shaft out of there and cap the hole. Don't half-*** it.
There are probably thousands of people who just cut the shaft myself included.
Yes I have heard the horror stories of not being able to find neutral with the wrong shift arm.
I have never had a problem finding neutral.
I did change the outer cover along with a custom derby cover.
Just sayin

Blue Bob, I never get tired of looking at your bike!
I would say don't cut the shaft, get the small cover for it. Who knows when you might want to change back to 'mids', also could be an issue when you sell the bike.

Those do work. They cover one lever arm length on the shaft and that is all that sticks out on a standard Dyna.
I promise this brief "thread hijack" is done know, but for the record: Your bike and Chris's bike (cggorman) are always treats to look at. Obviously there are tons of really nice rides here in the forum, but I always get lost in little details on both of your bikes. There's an endless list of fascinating little things on both of them... The kind of stuff that's obviously a labor of love on the owner's part, because a casual observer probably never notices half of it. But those are the kind of detail on cars and bikes that always leaves an impression on me.
