I must be a purist...<G>Put new gaskets on and use good ones. I'd do the same for the exhaust.

Exhaust was just done about 600 miles ago.
The manifold gaskets were only in the bike for 60 miles of ride time before the popping started again.
Just seems odd that it would happen after so little time ?

I would go over all the connections in the exhaust system. Exhaust ports to final muffler. sounds like the exhaust is sucking air on decel and allowing little explosions of fuel/ air in the exhaust.

When you changed your exhaust gaskets did you replace the retaining clips? I had the same problem on my FXDWGI and after replacing both gaskets and retaining clips the popping went away.

Advice on Popping? Don't do it. It went out of style back in the 80s.

Don't be Skeeter, lol.

Are you saying you replaced the (intake) manifold gaskets and it cured the popping for 60 miles, then it came back? Did you do anything else at the same time? Sounds like you found the problem, but not a permanent cure.

With the bike running and warmed up take some carb cleaner with a long nozzle hose on it and spray around where the intake gaskets are. If the bike revs up on its own you have a leak and you'll know where. Localizing the spray to one side then the other while not getting any in through the carb is the tricky part.

Being a purist is not bad. Depends on how much money you have and how soon you need the gaskets.

Old guy story:
At 14, I bought a '55 Ford station wagon for $50 from a mechanic that was over heating in about 2 minutes of run time. He was disgusted with the car.
With the hood open, staring at it, I noticed the spark plugs were angled forwards, not backwards like I had seen on other Fords.
I pulled the heads off. They were on backwards, on the wrong sides. The water jacket ports were blocked by the heads themselves.

I was too young to drive to the Car Parts store. This was in 1970. No internet orders. No gaskets. What to do?
I took a brown paper grocery bag and traced out the old gaskets. Cut the bag to fit. A bit of Form-a-Gasket and back on the block they go.
We'll get real gaskets later.

No overheating. GOOD CAR!! Mechanic was pissed.

Point? Store bought gaskets are great. Even my preference. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
