Default Help with primary mid controls

Howdy y’all,

here again asking for some knowledge. Bike had a slight oil leak from the primary for a couple of months and I just got around to opening her up and changing the primary gasket, derby cover gasket, plug, and fluid.

anyhow, while off I noticed the middle control shaft was rusted. The shifter does wobble, but stays on.

Any suggestions to get it to stop wobbling? Or thoughts why it’s rusted?

I have tried used a screw and bolt set up for the shifter to keep it tight, but I’ve had better success with the regular Allen bolt and some
locktite.

Previously and currently used Redline primary fluid. Also used the HD gasket.

Where's your shifter shaft sleeve? The shifter shaft goes through that after it is secured to the inner primary.

The OEM plastic one has a slight wobble, so I went with Cycle Engineering's (CE) metal sleeve. No wobble is felt.

I had to spend some time sanding the CE sleeve with Emory cloth for the shifter shaft to fit.

This was done on my 97 WG.

Poc below shows OEM sleeve.

He doesn't have a shift shaft sleeve because his is an 06 and up. They don't use them. You can tell by that little circle gasket in the photo.

To the OP. The rust is normal. Don't sweat it

Is your shifter lever tight. If it's not then the splines May be worn and time for a replacement lever
