99 was the last year of the nosecone ignition. 2000 was the 1st year of the Ctankshaft trigger ignition.

I believe that is incorrect, my ‘99 has the same ignition module mounted under the seat on the primary side as the ‘00. It does have a cam position sensor under the timing cover however. The ‘99 uses Evo era single piston calipers vs the 4 piston on the ‘00+, and I don’t recall if they switched to sealed bearings in ‘00 or ‘01.

The engine was almost all the same , the cam drive was updated ( recall ) , due snapped cam retension bolt issues , with that came updated bearings too . There was never a nose cone ignition but there was a cam position sensor for the first few years , during this time they figured that a cam position sensor was uneccessary and was no longer used , I think starting in late 01 or 02 , the cam sprocket was changed to a different part at the time they dropped the cam sensor . The rest of it is the same , including time proven timken bearings in the sprocket shaft side.

As for chassis differences the brakes are different , the wheel bearings are different , the timken servicable wheel bearings went away and starting in 00 und up vehicles being sealed bearings and with that , some vehicles started to be delivered with larger axle sizes , starting with touring models , Dyna's after that. .

The engines that had nosecone ignitions in 99 were softails and sportsters , the softail TC - B engine was released for the 2000 model year , injected or carb'd
