Default Raise the rear of a Wide Glide - fxdwg

I’ve got an older (03) wg, see sig..

I don’t know if it’s a visual thing, but the over look/feel has the rear lower, ie not level..

What is the best/easiest way to raise the rear.. Do shock spacers exist, or am I looking at longer shocks, etc..

looking for advice

thx in adv

As far as level, you want to look at the bottom of the frame with the bike up right. If the frame is level, the bike is level.

The bike has an intentional "rake' to the top profile of the bike, as designed by the MoCo, chopper-ish stance.

Raising the rear without raising the front has ill effects to handling. Good luck

Default Air Shocks?

I like the "low, raked, chopperish" look. But it hurts handling. I've never heard of "raising" blocks for a Dyna. I suppose you could make some, as the cheapest way. 'Most' any H-D shock will bolt on to 'most' any model. Differences in shocks will be length, spring rate, and valve damping. I think you have 12.5 inch shocks, get a used 13 or 13.5 inch from any other model (It's trendy to lower one's bike, there are LOTS of good, used OEM shocks collecting dust). Beware the size/weight rating, Shocks off a fully dressed bagger will ride hard on a lighter Dyna. I'd look for longer Dyna shocks. If you ride solo, maybe Sportster shocks? Beware fender clearance, you may need to spacer them outboard.
I put air shocks, meant for a newer FLH, on my '11 Wide Glide, with a "T" fitting to adjust PSI (Later added a compressor). Best 'mod' I've made. Raising the rear makes a remarkable improvement in the cornering ability of my M/C.
Our Wide Glides are lowered, raked Dyna's. By raising the rear only, you will change the ground clearance, trail, rake, and appearance. It won't be a Wide Glide. Embrace the "Chopper". LOL. When lower than stock, my W/G rides softer, and looks badass (Tho it handles like a "brick")

Cheapest way to do it is to use a Bung King lift kit for the rear. They're around $120.

Consider getting longer, premium shocks. It is a more expensive way to go, but you're also improving the ride and handling of the bike while raising it up.

Thanks all

I’m gonna try the bung king swing arm lift kit http://www.bungking.com/swing-arm-lift-kit/

That’s pretty much what I was looking for and the right price point.

It’s not my first bike, nor the first I’ve modded, it’s just my 1st HD and there’s a different flow, approach to ‘em, with waaaaaaaay more options

All the comments were appreciated, thx again..

I know in general you don’t want to jack the rear too much without the front.. The key word is much, I’ve done with both a race motard, and a cafe racer for faster turn ins, but neither was high hp, so high(er) speed instability wasn’t an issue..

The HD is a little different animal, but think about a 1nch should be ok, i don’t think I’ve got any/much room to play with the forks.. I totally agree that a shock swap would be the best approach, but there’s a few considerations I have to take into account.

The main is budget. The HD was a unplanned impulse purchase. Co Worker who was aware I rode (not HD) offered it up so cheap I couldn’t say no (wifey ultimatum). Honestly, I’m not necessarily a fan of chopper-ish look, it’d be far from my first choice (xr1200). It was all price, figured I’d ride it out for the season and lowball sell it and double my $ (yes, it was that cheap), but that was now a few years ago. I wasnt able to sell it, it’s not a back roads carver, as is my preference, but as a local man about town bike to tool around on, it’s great

Anyway, wife wasn’t happy when I brought “another” bike home.. I was getting rid of a bunch, I hadn’t exactly promised no more bikes, but afterward she made me promise no pricey mods.

So changes must be cheap, which means slow.. Notice it’s a 03 but it’s got like ‘11 wide glide bars/risers instead of T Bars or something.. cuz cheap... I just scored a deal on a Thunderheader, which I like the looks, but it (might) hang lower than the V&H’s and won’t be level and more noticeable. So I want to level it out . I’ll keep a look out for some longer OEM shocks, but wanted a middle step in the mean time to us3 with the exhaust

thx
