Default Zerk fitting on neck

Mu Dyna does not have a zerk fitting on the neck. What would be the downside(s) to installing a fitting if I am careful to avoid shavings?

Other than a frame full of grease and no grease getting into the bearings, no downside at all.

The only way to service the steering head bearings is do it the old way, take it apart, clean and inspect, repack (or replace).

There is no shortcut, the grease fittings just made a mess, and didn`t properly grease the bearings.

I always thought that Zurich was moot anyways. What you need to do is every 10,000 mi take the bearings out clean, repack and put them back in.. What most end up doing is packing the neck full of grease and I've seen the s*** cause nothing but a mess and then collect dust and dirt

A zerk fitting won't work on a Dyna. The neck is hallow and the grease will just spill out and on the top of your motor.

Man I Guess you learn a new word every day, Thanks misfit Jason... I didn't know that a Dyna was deemed sacred, WOW!!!

halˇlow
/ˈhalō/

verb
  1. honor as holy.
"the Ganges is hallowed as a sacred, cleansing river

In this context it just means "holy". That's why the grease spills out...

I think this was sometime ago or I could have read it on the Sportster board a gent pressed in a copper tube/sleeve trimmed too fit the neck, then he added a zerk.

It wouldn`t matter if the frame tubes were welded shut... the grease still won`t get to the bearings properly, it will just push past the dust seal and make a mess.
