What are my pre 06 dyna bros using for Compensator?
Looking for a new Compensator (aftermarket) for my 02 twin cam.. it looks like Bikers Choice, V-Twin manufacturing, Twin Power, or Drag Specialties.
Den Kirk has the V-twin set on sale for 137.. all the others are in the two bill range.
Is anyone using the V-Twin set, and/or what does everyone like for a Compensator. Not going to spend 6 mil on the exotic versions.
By the way, found a Diamond brand primary chain set on Ebay for 29 bucks.. it's the same one in den kirk and JP's for 100 bucks.. and its new. Both Den and Jp's were outa stock.
Thanks for any help/suggestions. Cleaning out the living room to roll the Dyna in from the cold, and get started soon. Got a multi state trip coming up in the summer, and want everything that's almost 20 year old new again.
What's wrong with the stock compensator?
I recently replaced mine with a stock HD one after 105k miles. It worked great for like 20 years so no need to reinvent the wheel and buy a different one. I have 98hp at the wheel of my 01 FXDX and that stock one works like a champ.
Well last time I had the primary apart (45k), I noticed that comp was pretty beat up. I have the old HB125 automatic chain tensioner, so there isn't much noise cruising, but I know it's due. The brands I listed are a stock replacement, but they all get better quality votes then a regular HD version.. and the HD version is 300 bucks.
My bike is about 110 hp, with 117 trq.

Reason: typos
I wouldn't go cheap on anything inside the primary. If that nice new 29 dollar chain comes apart doing 80mph down the road youre probably going to dead or be hurt bad enough youre going to wish you were dead. Is there something wrong with your current setup? Just trying to be proactive? Please just be careful what you stick inside that primary...your life or your passengers life isn't worth saving a few bucks. No im not a paid spokesman for baker drive train...lol although they have some very nice stuff.
Yes, just being proactive. The trip is going to be over 2k miles. The chain is regarded as the best you can buy (Diamond) by many, so even though I found it for a steal, it's not a low quality part. I went with the V-Twin Manufacturing Compensator. I'm looking forward to starting as soon as all the parts are in. It'll be a good time to really clean and polish everything too.
