I am converting to a full fender (FXDL) on my '17 FXD and need to confirm some conflicting info.
The shop manual states that there are 2 screws and 2 nuts that attach the taillight base to the fender (with no diagram), but the parts diagram clearly shows one bolt and an automotive-style clip-on nut (4 and 8 below). With the one bolt attachment, it's easy to get the light mounted crooked and the bottom edge wants to pop up. Can someone confirm what you have on yours?
It's definitely like shown in the diagram, at least on my '09 FXDC, which is the same fender as a FXDL. There are 2 screws that hold the lens to the base (#9 in the diagram), and one that holds the base to the fender (#4).
