Finally got them on. Picked up the bike tonight and rode it home. Excellent fit and finish. No shake or shimmy. Nice and smooth at all speeds.
My only regret is that I didn't go bigger. Now that there on I wish I had gone with 18's. Don't get me wrong they still look great but I still wish I went just a bit taller. I'll post pics this weekend.
Seems alot of folks wish they had gone taller when they did their apes. Guess that's why if I do it this winter I'm going straight to 16's even though I hear myself now saying " wish I had gone 18".
To be honest they don't feel that much different than the stock apes. At least to me they don't. You def know there higher but not by much. Lets put it this way I'd be really surprised if Uncle Leo ever stopped me to check there height. They look and feel like there right at my shoulder and I'm 5 ft 10". The 18's would make me reach just s bit more. But then again who knows how I'll feel about it after a long ride. Maybe I'll change my mind over the weekend when I put some miles on her.
No rain, No Rain, No Rain!!!
What length of cables did you guys go with? I have 18" Gimps coming for my 07 SB. I am wondering if I need the +6 or +8. I am using the stock risers. Hopefully I don't feel the need to go higher.
I went with +6 on my 16's and there is room for me to add 1.5 or 2" risers. If your going with 18's I would think you'd want +8. Do you have the Nash Gimps? Gimps are on the small side when compared to other bars. It's been talked about on here many times. I think I'd stay with +8's on the 18's no matter what unless someone on here can speak from true experience. I also went with a 54 in front brake line on the 16's. (thanks tattoofreaksb for the info) You'll have to measure for your 18's to be safe.
5$ 2in risers
go to hardware store and get:
from hardware,
-2 in longer bolts
-large fender washers
-chrome push cap
elsewhere,
-plumbing section
get chrome plumbing that will fit around the fender washers
what to do:
measure out 2 in in fender washers and cut the plumbing to cover the washers, then find the center of the chrome push cap and drill that out to match the size of your bolt, when cutting the plumbing tube be sure to tape the area being cut so the chrome does not flake, then just put it all together! cheap!!! and works great!!
