i do not get it is guess, very confused??? I love my bike, love putting money into it, I just don't understand why in this day and age we can't make our own informed decisions about accessories. IE, enhance the customiser, more sound bites with different exhausts, potential rides with different seats.
Boy, now I'm confused !! What are you saying, that the HD site customizer should showcase other companies' parts and accesories? And, do we not now make our own informed decisions by checking out bikes at meets and researching places like here on the forum and asking questions? I know I did and got lots of insight and help in my decsions. One of the reasons I got a harley was because it was an open canvas from which to make it my own, hell, I don't ever leave anything stock!

Chadmiller, This thread makes no sense. What are you actually asking (or ranting) about?...

1)."Why are there so many issues with upgrades?"

What issues are you talking about?

2)."People, myself included, write in about seat comfort, pipe loudness, air filter performance, and overall cosmetic appearance."

Uhh, ya. That's the point of a forum.

3)."I understand they are making a profit, but why should there be so many questions we have to write to other members about?"

This line doesn't even make sense.

4)."All of these questions eventually lead to personal preference which I would think we could see, hear, feel or read about on the web, at the dealer, or on our bike.."

What??....We all make personal preference decisions based on what we see, hear, feel, and read about. Are we not supposed to do that?

5)."in a sense we are being cheated."

Who's being cheated by who, and for what?

I just joined this site a couple of days ago. I have spent the last 90 days or so looking for saddlebags for my 2007 Bob via the web....
I was thrilled with the responses that I got from the nice folks on here that have already purchased bags for theirBob and attached pictures so I could see how they look. I alsoagree with Ratbasturd's comment....I sometimes think the sales people at the shops are just trying to makea sale.
-My 2 cents.

OK, my opinion:
Harleys are the hot rods of the day. The customization is limitless, just like the Chevys, Fords and Mopars of the 60's, 70's and early 80's. Most of us can remember those days. Speed shops were plenty full. Before internet, you had your choice of local speed shops and catalogs that you would have to call in by telephone at your house.

There are so many things you can do to these bikes. The same Dyna, Sporty, etc may roll off the showroom floor the same, but in just a short time, it no longer looks like the bike you took home. It is YOURS.

We are never "done". Just like the hot rod cars of our youth. Never done.

I love having choices. Not to bash other brands, but...yup here it comes. Most of the sport bikes look the same unless you are really a sport bike rider and you really know the model line up. The Victorys, very little choices out there for custominzation.

I love my Dyna. No real desire at this point to make a change except for adding a bagger to my line up. Street Glide, man it is endless for stuff to buy for Harleys.
Sell the house, the wife, the kids, need more "stuff" for the bike. (just kidding about the wife, house and kids thing)

My biggest reason for asking here is that my local dealer is of little help unless I want the items they sell. I can see their point, they want to sell you parts and service. But it seems everything I like is something they dont carry or recommend. I buy my share of bikes and parts from the local dealer, I just dont want my bike to look like all the others in town. I have seen 4 or 5 other black denim street bobs running around town and they all have the same exhaust and accesories. I just want more ideas so I come here and find plenty.
And when I have a problem the only answer you get from the dealers is bring it in. I want to fix things myself when I can.

A good reason is, that when you ask a question or for suggestions here. You will get an answer that is honest and most the time with pros and cons that the person has experienced for longer then a five minute test at the dealership. I have noticed that all seats feel great for 5 to 10 minutes of a few miles, ride for 500 miles and you may get a different opinion.
