I have been looking and looking for years and finally decided to go through with a purchase. This is my first American bike. I found this, with 9k miles less than 15 minutes from home. Everything looks great. The seller wanted $5,500 and I told him I'd give him that if it all checks out tomorrow when I go to see it in person. Is there anything particular to this year and model that I should post extra attention to?
The good: hydraulic cam chain tensioners, 6 speed trans
The bad: prepare for possible compensator and stator issues. Both are known issues on some of the 2006 bikes and are relatively easy to fix. Do a search on the forum there is lots of good information and knowledgeable folks here.
How old are the tires? Battery? Might want to factor that into the price? Plan on replacing all fluids including fresh gas, it hasnt been ridden much. Best of luck!

Tires and battery less than a year old. Fluids were just done last month. I'm planning on riding it home, so I'll fill the tank on the way home and then try to run through it in the next week and refill again.
I was happy enough with the price and was out of town, so I just offered him what he was asking if he would hold it for a week.
IIRC the 06 had some inner primary bearing issues, there was a TSB regarding it. Not sure if there was ever a fix for it though because the 06/07 were in between years for the dyna (first years of the 96, 6-spd, and new frame). Maybe someone better versed in the later dynas will chime in regarding that.
I would check the motor mounts out (especially the front), and plan to pull the steering head and re-grease or replace the bearings. Also check for lateral movement in the swingarm with the rear tire off the ground, doubt anything would be amiss with the bushing/bearings but its an easy check. If the brakes havent been flushed I would also do that.

The IPB issue can be resolved with the Baker sealed bearing. Some people have replaced theirs and cut off the race. When they do they can damage the mainshaft, but you won't be able to tell unless you take the primary apart. It's an odd year so mostly just have to pay attention to part numbers when you have to replace stuff. A long ride would be good to tell you if the stator is recharging the battery properly. Run it long, let it cool, try to start it.
