Default Mods vs Reliability

When i was younger had to mod everything. One thing i learned through the years the more you do to a Harley engine usually makes it less reliable. Anyone else have this experience?

I have had the same experience. These days I keep the builds pretty mild to preserve the reliability and drivability.

I have always built more power economically. Did some head work (clean up casting seams,) hi compression forged piston with an over-bore and a mild cam. Keep It Simple Stupid philosophy and my 07 Dyna has over 103,000 to show for it.

Modified drive trains can be less reliable. Depends on the quality of parts and workmanship. One thing’s for sure....Modified bikes are less desirable when it’s time to sell. Most used buyers prefer stock.

How far you take it, Quality of parts, Quality of person doing the work. How well The mods work with other work done all comes into play. Surely changing factory HD parts like cam and lifters to higher Quality aftermarket is a win. And a reasonable performance cam is not going to short life for the engine.
For the most part Moded bikes lose value. Most know that the first thing people ask is what is the cheapest I can....
